Rock Pools
by
Albert Kirk Jr
On lunar formations
across treacherous sands
glowering over fresh
poolings we hunt for life.
Limpets grip as we pry
and hermit crabs scramble
and panic.
Rightly so.
We would destroy them all.
But the sea understands.
Secret tides encroach and
scheming currents conspire
while we gauge vacant shells.
Albert Kirk Jr is a Scottish writer with a rather low opinion of the human project. He thinks that things might turn out all right, but they won't.
